Specialized Soft Tissue Sarcoma Management

Our center specializes in the comprehensive management of soft tissue sarcomas, providing patients with advanced diagnostic and treatment options in a compassionate care environment.

Types of Soft Tissue Sarcomas We Treat

We provide expert care for various soft tissue sarcomas including:

  • Liposarcoma: Malignant tumors arising from fat cells, with various subtypes requiring different treatment approaches.
  • Leiomyosarcoma: Sarcomas originating from smooth muscle cells, often found in the abdomen or uterus.
  • Synovial Sarcoma: Aggressive tumors that typically occur near joints, tendons or bursae.
  • Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumors (MPNST): Sarcomas arising from nerves or related to neurofibromatosis.
  • Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma (UPS): Previously known as malignant fibrous histiocytoma, one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas in adults.
  • Rhabdomyosarcoma: The most common soft tissue sarcoma in children, arising from skeletal muscle cells.
  • Angiosarcoma: Malignant tumors originating from blood or lymphatic vessels.
  • Desmoid Tumors (Aggressive Fibromatosis): Locally aggressive tumors that although not metastatic, can be challenging to treat.

Our Comprehensive Treatment Approach

Our multidisciplinary approach to soft tissue sarcoma management includes:

  • Precise Diagnosis: Utilizing advanced imaging (MRI, CT, PET-CT) and image-guided or surgical biopsy for accurate histopathological diagnosis and grading.
  • Multidisciplinary Tumor Board: Collaborative treatment planning with surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists.
  • Limb-Sparing Surgery: Wide surgical excision with appropriate margins while preserving limb function whenever possible.
  • Radiation Therapy: Neoadjuvant or adjuvant radiation to improve local control and potentially allow for less extensive surgical resection.
  • Systemic Therapy: Chemotherapy, targeted therapies, or immunotherapy based on tumor type, grade, and stage.
  • Advanced Reconstruction: Utilizing plastic surgery techniques including local flaps, free tissue transfer, and nerve grafting when needed.

Our Surgical Expertise

We employ specialized surgical techniques for soft tissue sarcoma management:

  • Wide local excision with appropriate oncological margins
  • Limb-sparing procedures with functional preservation
  • Plastic surgery reconstruction for optimal wound healing and cosmesis
  • Intraoperative radiation therapy when indicated
  • Isolated limb perfusion for locally advanced extremity sarcomas
  • Management of recurrent disease with re-resection strategies

We understand the complexity of soft tissue sarcoma diagnosis and treatment. Our team is committed to providing not only expert medical care but also the support and guidance needed throughout the treatment journey, from initial diagnosis through long-term follow-up care.
